Exercise is good for you, but it can sometimes be hard to get a consistent routine started. Here are a few simple exercise routines you can try right at your BYU-approved housing to help you get your daily movement in.

Work out in your pajamas!  Just do some pushups, burpees, pilates, yoga, anything. Unless you sleep in jeans, pajamas work just fine for some simple floor exercises. Cutting out the extra step of getting changed into workout clothes and leaving your BYU apartment to go to the gym makes it easier to actually get up and exercise.

Walk a few laps around the apartment complex. Exercise doesn’t have to be complicated or intense! Just getting up and moving your body around does a lot of good for every aspect of your health.

Watch a movie or TV show while you use the elliptical or treadmill. Half of the struggle with working out is a mental game. If you’re watching a show that fully captures your attention, you’re not thinking about how your legs are tired and how you want to get down. You can go to the fitness center in your BYU student apartment with your phone and headphones and watch Netflix while you walk or run.

Do fun things that get your body moving! Rock climbing, the goal isn’t to do thirty reps on your arms, the goal is to reach the top without falling. You can get a great workout in and have a lot of fun! There are so many things you can do from dance, to a bike ride, to a trampoline park, and more. Many of these activities can be done from the comfort of your university housing, or you can sign up for a class nearby.

These are just a few simple ways to exercise when you’re having a hard time getting started. What really matters is that you do what works for you and is best for your health. Some people love sports, others find a lot of peace through their daily walks. Let us know if any of these work for you!
